Biomass is organic material which has stored sun light in the form of chemical energy. Eg: wood, wood waste, straw, manure, sugar cane etc. By photosynthesis, solar energy can be converted into biomass which in turn can be stored and used as fuel in various forms. There are three ways to use biomass; a) can be burnt to produce heat and electricity eg: pyrolysis b) changed to a gas like fuel such as methane eg: bio-gasification c) changed to a liquid fuel i.e. bio fuels eg: Hydrogenation
Nuclear energy
It is the energy trapped inside each atom. It can be used as an important supplementary source to coal and hydel power that was realized nearly 3 decades ago and can generate electricity and has potential applications in industry, medicines, agriculture and research.
Energy is found on our planet in a variety of forms, some of which are immediately useful, while others require a process of
transformation. Sun is the primary energy source in our lives. We
use energy for household use, agriculture, production of industrial
goods and for running transport. There are two types of energy
i.e. renewable and non-renewable. Non- renewable energy sources
are coal, oil and natural gas. Renewable energy sources are
hydropower, solar, wind, biomass, hydro, geothermal and nuclear. We use energy wastefully, and are contributing to the environmental deterioration of our planet.
