Lecture - 6: DISEASES, PESTS AND PHYSIOLOGICAL DISORDERS OF CRUCIFERS |
Objective: Cole crops include cabbage, cauliflower, kohlrabi, broccoli, brussel’s sprouts and chinese cabbage. This is a very important group of winter vegetables. All cole crops are hardy and thrive best in cool weather except some acclimatized early cauliflower varieties. All have many things common in their cultural requirements. During cultivation, all these crops are severely affected by a number of diseases, pests and physiological disorders or non parasitic problems. Prevalence of favourable weather conditions during the growing season makes these crops prone to the attack of various diseases and pests. Besides, these crops especially cauliflower also get suffered due to some non parasitic diseases. The present chapter will make the students familiar with major diseases and insect pests, their causal organisms, brief symptoms and control measures adopted to control them. Besides, the students will also come to know what major physiological disorders are and how to manage these non parasitic diseases. |
