Related color schemes are based on common hues and tend to create a restful, quiet effect. They give the impression that all the colors really belong together, and yet, at the same time, there must be sufficient variety to avoid monotonous combinations. Color schemes sharing common characteristics with one dominating color are used in the related color schemes. Colors are closely situated to each other on the color wheel and have one color that is common or related. They are based on either a single hue or a series of analogous hues, and promote harmony and unity. Small amounts of other hues as accents, or by introducing shape, form and texture into their combinations will add variety.
