Chaises Lounge

The chaise longue-literally a long chair (not lounge chair)-is another eighteenth-century French invention.

The chaise lounge as seen in fig.6.5 is perhaps, the most restful of chairs. Most chaises are fully upholstered; some are all wood or have a wood frame with caning on the seat and back. Most have arms, but some are armless. The contemporary poolside chaise, made of metal, wood, or plastic have been developed from this eighteenth- century idea
