FUNDAMENTALS OF CLOTHING CONSTRUCTION 3(1+2)
Lesson 4 : Sewing Adjustment for Defects

Fabric Puckering

  1. Tension is too tight.
  2. Stitch too long for fabric being sewn, especially on fine fabric.
  3. Wrong presser foot used.
  4. Puckered threads across seams are due to a blunt needle or too large a needle.
  5. Stitch too short for synthetic and easy care fabrics.
  6. With automatic machines, the use of the plate with wide needle hole may cause straight seams to pucker.
  7. Upper thread and bobbin threads are of a different size and/or type.
  8. Pressure too heavy for fabric.
  9. Fabric pushed or pulled while stitching.

Remedies:

  1. Decrease stitch length.
  2. Replace the needle.
  3. Decrease the pressure on the fabric.
  4. Replace needle.
  5. Upper thread and bobbin thread to be of the same size.
