FUNDAMENTALS OF CLOTHING CONSTRUCTION 3(1+2)
Lesson 8 : Seams

General considerations

The purpose of most of these seams is purely functional and hence they can be called as constructional seams. Seams should be as flat as possible and unseen except those that are used for decorative purposes for garment design and line. Carefully selected and well-constructed seams and seam finishes are important —even critical in the construction process. They are the basic techniques used in the sewing process. Generally a seam is stitched 5/8-inch from the cut edge. The fabric from the stitching line to the cut edge is called as seam allowance.
