Lesson 02: Furniture Style

Regency (1810-1820)

1. Furniture gradually became heavier in scale and more massive in proportion. As the Regency style developed, it became bizarre.
2. Exaggerated curves and super fluous decorations worked the decline of the Regency furniture designs.
3. Chinese and Gothic themes were found in ornamentation.
4. The furniture was decorated with cornucopias, Egyptian figures, sphinxes, totus flowers and chinoiseries.
