Learning Objectives
Practical - 4 IDENTIFICATION AND DESCRIPTION OF VARIETIES/HYBRIDS (Contd..) |
Objectives:Vegetables play an important role in the balanced diet of human being. They not only provide energy but also supply vital protective nutrients like minerals and vitamins. Vegetable crops give higher yield per unit area as compared to other crops if proper varieties are planted with all the recommended practices. Most vegetables crops are of short duration and fit well into many remunerative crop rotations and cropping patterns for which knowledge of suitable varieties is very essential. If wrong varieties are planted even at appropriate time, they may not produce the desired yield but can also develop some disorders. The present chapter on radish, carrot, turnip and beet root will make the students familiar regarding identification of varieties, their horticultural characters, response to various biotic and abiotic diseases/stress and overall, their suitability to produce seeds. |
