Lesson 12:Elements Of Water And Rock

Introduction

Along with the plants, elements of water and rock also form a part of landscape architecture. Elements of water like fountains, pools, streams, waterfalls and so on contribute for good landscape design. By using the elements of water and rock along with the plants, the landscape architect can create some interesting focal points in the garden. Using the combination of these materials together is important for developing the landscape design. The grouping of these elements with each other is as vital as how these elements agree with the principles of design, such as line, form, unity, balance, centre of interest or focal point, rhythm, colour, texture, scale, proportion and their relationships. A garden must be a source of stimulation of the senses and thereof, elements which interact with the senses must be used
