Principles of Design

  • Design is basically a creation by selection and arrangement of line, form, colour, texture and space known as the elements of art on the basis of principles of design, proportion, harmony, balance, rhythm and emphasis.
  • The design is an expression of the person who does the selection and arrangement of these elements
  • Principles of design are not the rigid rules or formulas. They act as a guide in spontaneous expression of the individual taste and promote the basic knowledge of organization of objects and ideas to achieve the objectives of designing.
  • An understanding of application of principles of design helps the landscape designer to develop beautiful landscape design.
  • In landscape designing the principles of designing can be applied while designing elements as well as their interrelations.
  • The artistic application of these principles is the basis of aesthetic success, as measured by beauty and expressiveness.
