Introduction

To ensure conformity of the constructed building to the specific requirements it is important to have a good plan. Plans provide the vast information needed to construct. Plans should also include all applicable aspects of the local and national building codes. Building codes are laws which provide for health, safety and general welfare of the community. As it is not possible to include all construction details on a single sheet, a set of plans are prepared which will include a site plan, foundation plan, floor plan/s, elevation plans, sectional plans, and electrical plans.. From the interior design point of view built in cabinet plans, furniture arrangement plans, interior finish plans may also be included. The choice of an appropriate scale according to the number and details needed is also essential. House plans generally include the following features, depending on the size and type of house:

  • Patios, terrace or veranda
  • Garage
  • Formal dining room
  • Porch
  • Bedroom
  • Bathroom
  • Kitchen
  • Breakfast nook
  • Living room
  • Fireplace
  • Basements
  • Offices
  • Closets
  • Den (study)
  • Attics
  • Hallways, Vestibule
  • and other interiors

House plans often come in the form of a set of construction or working drawings, although these are still sometimes called blueprints. This set generally includes the following sheets:
