WALLS AND WINDOW TREATMENTS 3(1+2)
Lesson 9 : Wall Elements: Windows

Pivoted windows , Rotating & Jalousie

Pivoted windows: In these windows, the shutters are allowed to swing round pivots fixed to the window frame. The window frame has no rebates. The frame of the window shutter is similar to that of an encasement window. The shutter can swing or rotate either horizontally, or vertically

Rotating – Rotating windows have a center pivot and can open from either side or top and bottom. These windows aren’t very popular because they don’t easily allow for screens when in the open position, but they’re very easy to clean and a reflective coating can be applied to manipulate the sun’s heat.

Jalousie – Jalousies are made of glass slats set in metal clips that can be opened and closed in unison. Also called a louvered window, a jalousie is made like a glass shutter. This type of window is manually rotated to open or close the overlapping panels as required, and can be opened by degrees to control how much air or light passes through. Jalousie windows are best suited for areas with year-round comfortable climates. They help cool a home, but are impossible to seal, making it difficult to keep heat and A/C air inside and extreme weather out.
