Broad outline of the course

BROAD OUTLINE OF THE COURSE

  • The course entitled “Principles and techniques of veterinary and animal husbandry extension” is offered in the B.V.Sc., & A.H curriculum with the aim to sensitize the veterinary graduates to the different socio-cultural aspects of our society in which they live and has to work and to equip them with needed skills to be effective communicators in serving the people for the cause of the science of veterinary and animal sciences. The course is offered as a 2+1credit course and has been organized into 36 theory lectures and 18 practical sessions.
  • The theory part of the course broadly covers concepts in sociology, extension teaching,contribution of animals to humankind, adoption of innovations, constraints in adoption, leadership, client dealing and kinds of farming practiced in India.
  • The theory also deals in detail the conduct of social surveys, rural and animal husbandry development programmes, programme planning and evaluation, changes in corporate and work ethics and advances in information and communication technologies with relevance to veterinary and animal sciences.
  • The practical sessions are designed to provide hands on experience in the use of modern audio-visual equipments, preparation of visual aids. extension publications, conduct of surveys to know the livestock rearing pattern of the people and constraint perceived in rearing animals and innovations adoption.
  • The practical also exposes the students to group discussions, conducting awareness and health campaigns and using computers for teaching and information dissemination.
