INTRODUCTION

“An institution is an organized system of social relationships which embodies certain common values and procedures and meets certain basic needs of society” [Horton, 1964].

Social institutions are formal cultural structures devised to meet basic social needs” [Landis, 1995].

Groups of people develop different institutions depending upon the needs of the society. These institutions also will be changed or modified to suit the changing requirements of the society. For example the educational institutions – schools underwent a series of changes from Gurukul, School (Government and Private), Convents, Boarding schools, etc.
