Tonic neck reaction

TONIC NECK REACTION

  • With animal in a normal standing position, the head is elevated and neck is extended.
  • The normal reaction is slight extension of thoracic limbs and slight flexion of pelvic limbs.
  • Lowering the head causes thoracic limbs to flex and pelvic limbs to extend.
  • Turning the head to the side causes a slight extension of ipsilateral thoracic limb and slight flexion of the contra lateral thoracic limb.
