Treatment for hypomagnesemic tetany

TREATMENT OF HYPOMAGNESEMIC TETANY

• 10% MgSo₄ - 100 ml s/c gives only a transient effect and should be followed with feed supplement
• Narcosis with chloral hydrate
• Tranquilizers
• Morphine to avoid respiratory paralysis
• 50% MgSo₄ 50-100 ml s/c on one side and Ca borogluconate -150 ml on other side
• Calcium magnesium preparation - 25%: 500 ml i/v followed by concentrated solution of 50 % MgSo4 200 ml s/c (or) 20 % Mg So4: 200-300 ml i/v
