Steps to increase yield, Packing and value added products

    Major steps to be taken for increased yield
    (i) Conservation of soil moisture by deep summer ploughings;
    (ii) use of improved variety;
    (iii) timely sowing;
    (iv) maintaining optimum plant population;
    (v) application of recommended dosage of fertilisers and, if possible, irrigation;
    (vi) timely plant-protection measures;
    (vii) harvesting the crop when 75% of the pods turn yellowish in colour.
    Packing and storage
  • The seeds that are cleaned by winnowing are packed in gunny bags and stored in a cool, dry place.
    Value-added products
  • Dried/Dehydrated mustard greens (leaves), powdered mustard or mustard flour, ground mustard (mustard meal), compounded mustard or mustard compound, mayonnaise, mustard cake, etc. are some value-added products of mustard.
