Factors affecting Span of Control

Factors affecting Span of Control

    • Market - If the market is spread over a wider area - a nation / continent, it would require a narrow and larger span of control than for firms operating within a State or District
    • Similarity of job - Many employees doing similar job could be controlled by a single manager. A Marketing Manager may control 10 or 15 Salesmen
    • Capability of employees - if the employees are highly capable then they can manage by themselves and require wide span of control.
    • Technology - modern communication gadgets have enabled easy and quick communication across continent, thereby facilitating wider span of control.
