Functions

The functions of Sodium ion are:

  • Regulates acid-base balance of the body
  • Regulates osmotic pressure of plasma and tissue fluids which protects the body against excessive fluid loss;
  • Keeps calcium and other minerals soluble in the blood, as well as stimulating the adrenal glands.
  • Helps in absorption of monosaccharide and amino acids from small intestine.
  • Initiates and maintains the heart beat.
