Lesson 41 : Membrane Potentials

Definitions

Synapse: is a junction of two neurons e.g. axo-somatic, axo-dendritic or axo-axonal synapse.

Neurotransmitters: are chemical messengers released from one neuron and act on next neuron across a synapse to transmit nerve impulse e.g. acetylcholine, nor-epinephrine.

Physiology of Nerve Cell

Nerve cells are involved in generation, propagation and transmission of nerve impulse. All these functions are carried out through changes in their electrical properties called membrane potentials.
