Lesson 25:Cirrhosis

Introduction

This is advanced liver damage, characterized by dense scarring where the lobes are covered with fibrous tissue.
Cirrhosis is the end point of many types of liver damages.

  • Necrosis
  • Fatty infiltration
  • Fibrosis and nodular regeneration

Cirrhosis takes few months to many years to develop.
Once cirrhosis has developed, it is irreversible, but the damage may stabilize if the underlying cause is removed or treated.
