Lesson 13:Early childhood Assessment

Natural Assessment model

• Team consists of members from different disciplines who observe the child in a variety of developmental domains.
  
• Each team receives training in all areas of development.
  
• Assessment is carried out in play settings.
  
• Involves interaction with the environment.
  
• 4-5 children are observed simultaneously by the team for 1 hour.
  
• Parents are also interviewed and histories are taken.
  
• Room consists of toys and motor equipment.
  
• Each team member completes the developmental checklist called Mini wheel of Developmental milestones which measures four areas of development- intellectual, language, motor and social emotional development.
• Team members include- speech language pathologist, preschool teacher, psychologist, teacher assistant, social worker and nurse.
