Materials used for infant stimulation

Note: Some activities do not require any material except the active care giver infant interaction. For other activities materials will be selected or prepared. Some of the material used for stimulation of different senses is mentioned in the following table.

1 VISION

Flash light, tinted film in 4”x4” sheets ( basic colours: red, yellow, blue and double them up to create other colours then place the lense of your flash light), small toys with flash lights, small mirror, shiny objects such as keys, fake jewellary, wrist bands, wall hangings, black & white rotators, crib toys, dangling dolls etc.


2 HEARING

CD/cassette/ radio player (s) and a variety if music and pre- taped sounds like lullabies, horns, whistles, sound making toys, rattles , ektara, shakers, bells, musical instruments etc


3 TACTILE

Feathers, paint brushes to brush tiny feet to hand from heel to toe/ finger tips, mid line of the chest to the diaper, sand box with clean sand, empty (shoe) box filled with un cooked rice, dhal, grains, beans or mixture, different surfaces, textures like flowers, leaves and grass, hand lotion, sand paper, paper, various small textured stones, various pieces of cloth such as terry (soak in warm and colored water for variations), silk, cotton, corduroy, wood or card board squares, 4”x 4” on which have glued bits of string, yarn or made patterns with sand, small hand vibrator, small hand held fan etc. feathers, tactile cube/ board, sponge toys, woolen balls.


4 SMELL

The medicated / clean cotton with scents such as after shaves, body deodorants / perfumes, lemon juice, vinegar, coffee, extracts, cinnamon, pepper etc.


5 VESTIBULAR Swings, hammock, rocker tub, balance board.
