Lesson 15 : Child Welfare Services

These centres could be located in the community welfare centres, hospitals or schools both is urban and rural areas. The main functions of these clinics will be

Physical examination - periodical weighing of babies
Immunization against childhood diseases.
Treatment of minor ailments and manumits
Advices to parents to follow certain instruction given by physician, for prevention of certain diseases.
Referring cases requiring treatment to other medical agencies.

These clinics should also devote some time towards parents education. Once in a week, the clinic nurse arrange meeting with parents to organize techniques and discussions on child care. Periodically films, slide shows can be shown on health habits, health education etc.
