Lesson 44 : Role of International Agencies in Child Welfare Development

Introduction

An international Governmental and Nongovernmental organizations dedicated to the promotion of the rights and well being of children globally which recognizes the contribution of effective leadership in the challenge of making the world a better place for children.

Role of United Nations agencies:
United Nations agencies realized the importance of child development and are engaged in programmes which concern directly with the welfare of the children. The United Nation's concern for child development arises out of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child which was unanimously adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 20th November, 1959. The declaration states that all children should have the right to

  1. Adequate nutrition, housing, medical care and recreation
  2. Affection, love and understanding
  3. Free education
  4. An opportunity to develop physically, mentally and morally in freedom and dignity
  5. A name and nationality
  6. Special care, if handicapped
  7. Be among the first to receive relief in times of disaster
  8. Protection against neglect cruelty and exploitation
  9. Enjoy their rights, regardless of race, colour sex, religion, national or social origin
