The oral stage-Birth to 18 months

• This is the period in which the mouth experiences the most tension and requires the most tension-reducing stimulation. Eg. Sucking mother’s breast, thumb or a pacifier.
  
• Feeding is therefore the most important activity for the infant during this period.
