Intelligence encompasses cognition. Cognition is the method by which people assimilate and integrate knowledge, while intelligence is both the assimilation of knowledge as well as the ability to apply such knowledge, i.e. the proficiency one has in a given area. Cognition is a process of organizing and making meaning of experiences
