Lesson 20: Thermal pollution

Thermal pollution happens when water from rivers, lakes, ocean and streams experience a harmful increase in temperature. This temperature rise can have a negative impact, killing the native fish and plant life.

Definitions

The discharge of warm water into rivers is called thermal pollution. (OR)
Thermal pollution is the degradation of water quality by any process that changes the water temperature.
