Causes of solid waste

• The lack of space for dumping solid waste has become a serious problem in several cities problems.
  
• In ancient cities, food scraps and other wastes were simply thrown into the unpaved streets where they accumulated.
  
• The initial disposal methods were very crude and were often just open pits outside the city walls.
