Victorian (1837-1890)

  1. There are some basic qualities of the Victorian styles that can be extremely appealing.
  2. The Victorian period may be divided into 3 phases: g
    • The Early period
    • Mid Victorian period
    • Late Victorian Period
  3. In this period the eclectic mood was dominant.
    • Window were covered with curtains and heavy draperies in intricate arrangements usually embellished with fringes or tassels or both.
    • Carpenting of many colors, often floral patterns were popular.
    • The furniture often poorly proportioned and massive in scale was heavily carved ornamented.
    • Chairs, sofas and love seats – which were especially popular and upholstered with horsechair.
