Queen Anne (1702-1714)

  1. The style of furniture of the Queen Anne period is characterized by a graceful simplicity ahnd excellent proportion.
  2. In early Queen Anne pieces, the legs were quite plain and usually rested on club feet.
  3. ‘H’- form stretchers were often used but gradually disappeared.
  4. A spoon-shaped profile curved at the back of the chair kmade it more comfortable.
  5. The style developed the legs which became more heavily curved and more massive.
  6. The period is also distictive for wider use of many newer pieces of furniture including the tallboy and lowboy.
  7. Queen Anne style highboy, are still popular.
