Family: In simple words family is a group of persons related by blood, marriage or adoption, residing together in a dwelling, sharing a common table and receiving its support from a common purse.
It is a social group characterized by living in common residence, economic cooperation and reproduction. It contains adults of both sexes, at least two of whom maintain a socially approved sexual relationship, and one or more children, own or adopted, of the sexually cohabiting adults.
Household: A household is a kind of family unit, though households can be other social groups, such as single persons, or groups of unrelated individuals.
It may constitute members of the same sex who live together and share a common table.
All family groups are households, but all households are not families.
Large group of persons living in institutions, residence hotels, college fraternities, large houses are termed as Quasi- Household.
