Lesson 02 : Family And Changing Housing Needs

Introduction

  • Family life cycle describes the effect of time on a family through the phases of marriage and births and deaths, reflected in the family's income and consumption.
  • Spatial environment of the home is an important factor in the consideration of satisfactory housing for the families.
  • A sustainable housing is a diverse one, accommodating people of different life stages, incomes, and household composition.

  • A big family is likely to prefer a large house with several rooms and access to private open space; a young unmarried professional may require a small room or single bedroom apartment, while an elderly couple may seek an easy to care dwelling unit. Family's size, structure, age and stage may influence current housing needs in the family life.
