Irrigation systems

Where soil does not have enough water, irrigation system should be tailored to the needs. Different types of irrigation systems are

  1. Perforated pipe

This type of irrigation uses an unobtrusively colored garden hose punctuated with holes of specific size and spacing, threaded around the base of plants. Covering it with light mulch will reduce evaporation.

  2. Pot drip

The pot drip devices are dark colored units pushed into the soil to supply water to containers and pots. With automatic controls they are useful for watering plants whenever required in the absence of a person.

  3. Mini-sprinklers

These are units whose height can be adjusted to suit the size and grouping of plants. If spaced carefully watering can be done without leaving unwanted area.

  4. Pop-up sprinklers

These use water pressure to cause the watering heads to pop up out of the lawn, when not in use, the heads retract below the surface; out of the way of mowers and other traffic.

  5. Drip irrigation

It is a system to make a little water to go a long way. Water is delivered in small quantities under low pressure directly to where it does the most good – right to the root zones of the plant.
