Structural design of a garment supports it to perform efficiently as per the general or special needs of the person. It decides on what, where and how the elements of the design have to be used such that they relate to each other and to the body of the wearer. This affects the garment fit, its openings (size and location), physiology and wearer’s movement and safety (Fig. 1.6).
This establishes agreement of structural design with both the garment’s function and the structure of human figure. Thus structural design of a garment influences both its functionality as well as appearance.
