Pattern grading is a technique used to increase or decrease the size of a garment pattern according to the measurements in a given size chart or Pattern grading is the scaling of a pattern to a different size by incrementing important points of the pattern using an algorithm in the clothing and footwear industry. Pattern grading is the drafting process of enlarging or diminishing a style pattern into patterns for other sizes. The function of grading is to see that this is accomplished with proper fit for the other size without changing the style sense of the original model. If the style sense of the original model gave the wearer an illusion of additional height and a slim silhouette, the same style sense must be present in the graded sizes. This is the important facet of grading.
