Introduction

A yoke is the upper part of a garment that fits the shoulder or hip area. It is attached to the lower section by a seam which may appear as a horizontal or stylized line. A yoke styleline can be placed anywhere above the bust level or on the back garment above, at, or below the shoulder blades. The yoke controls gathers, pleats, or a plain area to which it is attached. Yokes, as a design feature, are found on all types of garments. The yoke series includes front collarless yoke and back designs with special emphasis on back design detailing design 1 and 2 are used to illustrate back yoke development by the slash / spread and pivotal / transfer techniques.

A bodice yoke is a portion of a garment fitted at the shoulders. Yokes are used to support the lower section of garments, which may be designed in variety of length and styles. There are many shapes used to enhance or create a particular design.
