Lesson 10: Weaving Process

Beating or Battening

Weft that is placed in the shed is loose and away from the fell of the cloth. It is pushed to a proper position by swinging the beater containing the reed. This action pushes the weft close to the cloth beam.

Once again the shedding motion starts, but with a reverse lifting of the harnesses. Thus the harness that was lowered earlier is now raised and the previously raised one is lowered creating another ā€˜Vā€™ shed.

The filling yarn that has passed from first end to the second, will run from the second end to the first. Later the beater comes into action and performs its role. After continuing these operations for a certain amount of time, the two subsidiary operations are activated.
