Lesson 27: Synthetic Dyes

Pigment color

These are mainly organic coloring compounds, and, in addition to being insoluble in water, they have no affinity for fibers. They are used on synthetic fibers. To fix them on fibers some type of adhesive, resin, or bonding agent must be used. These dyes can be mixed with the fiber in the solution stage and extruded. Pigment colors are used in solution dyeing of acetate, rayon, nylon, polyester and other man-made fibers.
