Lesson 14 : Importance of Graphic Design video production

Lettering and Titles

Graphic images can be divided into two additional categories, titles and illustrations, on the basis of the nature of the images themselves. Titles are various forms of lettering that either accompany illustrations and live-action images or are presented as written text. They are created electronically on devices called a character generator to graphics generator. Illustrations are visual images, such as charts, graphs, and pictures. They can be hand-drawn, photographed, or produced with the aid of computer graphics equipment.

Lettering and titles are used to introduce the name of a film or television program and to list the credits or names of people who have contributed in some way to the production. The opening group of titles for a program is called a title or credit sequence.
Another common use of titles is to clarify live-action images. Subtitles or name keys are titles keyed in the bottom third of the video or film frame, including the person or place being shown. Finally, lettering and titles can be presented as pure text that is without any other visual accompaniment.
Textual materials are used to convey written information in the form of electronic newspapers, advertising, or financial statements.
