Estimation of lipids

Principle

• The lipids of biological materials can be extracted efficiently and rapidly with chloroform–methanol–water mixture to minimise the oxidative decomposition and the production of artifacts.

• The chloroform layer containing lipid is then isolated, dried and the fat content estimated.
