Procedure

Water is taken in a jar and the fish is introduced into it after taking its weight. Prior to introduction of fish i.e. the initial amount of CO₂ and O₂ is estimated by titrimetric methods.The time of introduction of fish is noted.

The same analysis is repeated after 1 hour and the amount of CO₂ and O₂ are estimated.

From the initial and final values, amount of oxygen consumed by fish and amount of CO₂ released by fish in unit time can be calculated.
