Physiology of Finfish and Shellfish (2+1)

Principle

Dissolved oxygen and carbon-di-oxide can be estimated at regular time interval by titrating the sample in presence of reagents. Increase in dissolved CO₂ level indicates release of CO₂ by fish and decrease in DO indicates consumption of O₂by fish during respiration.

The amount of CO₂ in water can be estimated any time by direct titration with standard NaOH (N/44) or Na₂CO₃(N/22) solution till phenolphthalein end point.

The dissolved oxygen can be estimated by “Winklers titration” method.
