Mercuric nitrate solution:

2.9 to 3.0 g of mercuric nitrate(analytical quality) is dissolved In a few hundred ml of water with the addition of 20 ml of 2N HNOs. The solution is made up with water to 1000 ml.

Indicator: Take100 mg of Diphenyl carbazone (Eastern Kodak No. 4450) and dissolved in 100 ml of95 percent alcohol and stored in the dark, preferably in a refrigerator.

Chloride standard: Sodium chloride is dried at 1200 C and 584.5 mg are dissolved in water and made upto 1000 ml. The solution contains 10 milli equivalents of chloride per litre. It is used for the standardization of each new batch of mercuric nitrate solution.
