DISTINCTIVE CHARACTERS

Left valve little deeper than right, hinge long and straight and hinge teeth on both valves and long axis of shell is at right angles of hinge. Colour of periostracum varies and brownish with radial markings below the hinge level. Valves are marked off as anterior and posterior ears; the former is more prominent than latter. Adductor muscle is single and strong. Adductor impression is large and sub central. Nacreous layer is well developed in both valves; golden yellow and has a bright metallic lustre.
