DISTINCTIVE CHARACTERS

The hinge of the shell is straight and dorsal surface of valve is radially and transversely grooved. Blood of this clam is red due to presence of haemoglobin in plasma. Found distributed in the muddy-sandy bays, creeks and backwaters of east coast, and abundant in Pulicat lake and Kakinada coast.
