Biotechnology has wide applications in all fields of science and technology. Genetic engineering is used in the production of drugs, human gene therapy , and the development of improved plants. Based on the field in which the principles of biotechnology are applied, new areas of research have emerged and have developed into a multi-dicipplinary domains of their own. A brief on such specialized fields are summarized hereunder.
