6.1.3 Rural Sociology

Definition

Rural Sociology is the science of rural society. According to Desai (1969), it is the study of sociological life in rural settings to discover their conditions and tendencies and to formulate principles of progress.

Society is the web of social relationships.

A society is a collection of individuals united by certain relations and modes of behaviour which mark them off others who do not enter into these relations or who differ from them in behaviour (Ginsberg).

A group of people who have lived together long enough to become organized and to consider themselves as a unit more or less distinct from other human units (John F. Cuber).
