There are countless situations in which we interact with other human beings and strive to get their valued co-operation and support. Interaction requires interpersonal communication in a variety of ways. Extension talk/Public speaking is one of the most powerful way through which we can communicate with others.

Public speaking is an art. If one wants to be successful in any walk of life, he should learn the art of public speaking. One of the essentials to have a burning desire is to become a great public speaker. Public speaking is the shortcut to distinction. If you are so inclined you can certainly acquire the skills, and master techniques required to make a speech that is effective, informative, eloquent and entertaining.

Public Speaking is the process of verbal articulation to a group of people in a structured, deliberate manner intended to inform, influence, or entertain the listeners. Public speaking can be a powerful tool to use for purposes such as motivation, influence, persuasion, informing, translation, or simply entertaining.

Public speaking like lectures, seminars, talk and reporting, etc. have definite objectives. These have two important components of information and persuasions. The former is the faculty of speaker while later is a response expected from the audience. These components are necessary for setting the objectives which should be simple, measurable, attainable, realistic and time bound, time is the key factor in speaking. Brevity is sole of fit.

In public speaking, as in any form of communication, there are five basic elements, often expressed as "who is saying what to whom using what medium with what effects?" The purpose of public speaking can range from simply transmitting information, to motivating people to act, to simply telling a story. Good orators should be able to change the emotions of their listeners, not just inform them.
