Tools for data collection

The various methods of data collection are called as tools or instruments of data collection. Some of the important tools of data collection are:

(i) Observation method

(ii) Interview method

(iii) Mailed questionnaire method.

i) Observation method :

It is most commonly used method specifically in studies relating to behavioural sciences.

ii) Interview method:

This method involves presentation of oral-verbal stimuli and reply in terms of oral-verbal responses. This method can be used through face to face personal interviews or through telephone interview.

iii) Mailed questionnaire method:

In this method, a schedule of questions printed is sent to the persons concerned with a request to answer the questions and sent back the filled in questionnaire to the researcher.
